World’s first Braille Smartwatch named ‘Dot’

A group of researchers in South Korea have created world’s first braille smartwatch for the visually impaired people. This device named Dot consists of pins on its surface which rise and fall to form braille characters. When you place your fingers on these pins, you will feel the characters forming a pattern. The speed of these pins can be customized according to the requirement. It can display four such characters at a time. Once charged, users can operate Dot for a continuous period of around five days.

Like Asus, Samsung, Haier smartwatch and many others, it is too loaded with features like a timepiece, messaging, navigation and alarm. It is also equipped with Bluetooth facility which can connect it to a smartphone and then retrieve messages from apps such as iMessage. Instead of depending on an app which reads out messages, users can feel the text though their fingers that makes the process more personalized. Apart from this, Dot is also an ebook reader, facilitating the user to read articles and even novels. With the battery life of 10 hours, this device is an effective medium for learning Braille.

The pre-booking procedure is about to start soon while the sales will commence later this year. It is likely to be sold at USD 300 starting from US and Canada. This innovation is surely going to contribute a lot in the world of braille literacy. It will not only aid the visually impaired people but will also make them feel connected to this modern world. They will be able to handle all the information conveniently though this handy gadget.
